  • Working with clay on a pottery wheel in a studio

    Teapots - Lids, Spouts and Handles with Kevin Boyd

    In this workshop Kevin will guide you through lids, handles and spouts, three essential elements that provide endless possibilities for successful ‘form and function’. Our workshop will offer opportunities to explore these elements through discussion, demonstration and application.

    On Saturday we will focus on designing and forming components, followed by trimming and assembly on Sunday. Participants will develop a set of objects that may include items such as teapots, jugs, mugs and lidded pots..

    The fee includes the firing and glazing of 1 x teapot and 2 handled forms ie. jug, mug. Kevin will complete the glazing using the Neo studio glazes.

    We recommend this workshop for those comfortable with centering 1kg of clay.

    Wood Firing with Zak Chalmers

    Join Zak at the Valley Plains Pottery for the firing of the catenary arch kiln. This workshop includes glazing, wadding, loading, firing and unpacking.

    In a small focused group of a maximum of six people. Zak will guide you through the process of setting up a firing and bringing it up to top temperature. Participants are to bring bisque ware made in a stoneware clay to be glazed on the first Saturday.

    This workshop is located at the Valley Plains Pottery in Tarwin, Gippsland near Inverloch and Leongatha.

    Zak Chalmers is a wood firer from Tarwin, Gippsland. Zak produces work in porcelain and stoneware bodies fired with native timbers from the property. Pots are processed in the Anagama, catenary arch and soda kiln.

    Coloured Clay and Nerikomi

    In this workshop we will present and guide you through coloured clays. How to use them on the wheel to create marbled effects and hand build to form layered patterns described as nerikomi. We hope the structure of the day is constructive and brings a new element to your work.

    This workshop is suitable for any level.
